HCA Healthcare in the UK

HCA Healthcare has been providing healthcare for more than 50 years. It began with a small hospital, Park View Hospital, founded by doctors, in Nashville, U.S. In 1995 HCA entered the UK healthcare market, and has since built a world-class network of over 30 facilities in London and Manchester, with its latest venture opening in Birmingham in 2023.

Today HCA is the largest private healthcare provider in the world, and one of the leading private healthcare providers in the UK. Its founding philosophy of putting patients first has guided it every day since 1968. It provides compassionate care to patients no matter what they need - from clinical research, primary care (including a private GP service), outpatient and day-case treatment, through to complex and urgent care

In the UK, HCA Healthcare UK, is the only private hospital group to have the highest level of critical care beds in all of its facilities and positively takes on new challenges, in innovation and advancing clinical care. Importantly, HCA's scale enables it to invest in networks of facilities with a specialist focus. Both here in the UK and in the US, networks staffed by experts in their fields, deliver high quality care for patients.

World-class clinicians

We offer joined-up care for our patients across our network of outstanding facilities in London and Manchester. We work with over 3,000 carefully selected consultants who are experts in their specialties, and who are at the forefront of global clinical excellence.

They will lead your care throughout the time you’re with us. Uniquely, we cover virtually all aspects of medicine from prevention and diagnosis through to treatment and after care. Once you are with us, we will do everything in our power to get you back to doing the things you love as quickly as possible.

I owe my life to the remarkable HCA UK doctors.

Tom, Cancer patient

Caring for you like family

HCA Healthcare was founded in 1968 by a cardiologist who believed in truly patient-centred care. This ethos of compassion, respect and inclusion is at the heart of HCA UK.

At HCA UK we cared for over 300,000 patients in 2021

We treat our patients like we would want our own loved ones to be treated.

One nurse just sat with me and held my hand so that I didn’t feel alone. It was very reassuring.

Investment in innovation

Over the last five years, we have reinvested over 85% of our profits back into our healthcare system.

We continually invest into the latest technologies and state-of-the-art equipment, so that we can give our patients the most accurate and least invasive diagnosis and treatment.

We are the largest provider of robotic surgery in the independent sector with a fleet of seven da Vinci surgical systems across five hospitals including at: The Lister Hospital, The Wellington Hospital, London Bridge Hospital, The Princess Grace Hospital and The Christie Private Care.

We also offer access to HCA UK’s clinical trials and genetic testing at our Sarah Cannon Research Institute, giving patients more options and improved outcomes.

A different kind of healthcare company

Unlike other private healthcare providers, we can look after you no matter how complex or acute your condition. We cover all aspects of medicine, including cardiac and cancer care, paediatrics, orthopaedics, rehabilitation and obstetrics.

Working with the NHS

Uniquely, we also partner with the NHS to provide care in private patient units within large NHS teaching hospitals. We’re proud to share technology and expertise with them to advance care for all patients.

Better outcomes for patients

We treat 27 million people each year across our global network, and we learn from each and every one, so that we can deliver world-class outcomes to each patient that we care for. No other UK provider can match our global scale, breadth and depth of knowledge and expertise.

Other private healthcare providers tend to run facilities that offer services equivalent to an NHS district general hospital. We aim to provide the quality of care of a teaching hospital – but better.
